Activity metrics explained
Understand elapsed time, pace, heart rate, cadence, and territory in one place.
Elapsed time is the full period from Start to Finish, including pauses and waiting. Moving time is the portion Tam credits as active movement after checking accepted points, motion, distance, and GPS quality, so it can be shorter than elapsed time. Distance is the total of accepted route segments; average pace is elapsed or moving time divided by distance depending on the screen, while fastest or minimum pace is the quickest accepted pace and slowest or maximum pace is the slowest accepted pace, so a lower minutes-per-kilometre number is faster. Heart rate is the average or sampled beats-per-minute value from a connected sensor, and cadence is steps or revolutions per minute where the device supports it. Calories and elevation are estimates from available activity, profile, location, and sensor data, while territory is the area that passes Tam's loop, validation, and ownership rules; any missing metric usually means the source device did not provide usable data.
What to do
- Check the metric label and unit before comparing values.
- Use moving pace for effort comparisons when pauses are part of the activity.
- Treat heart rate, cadence, calories, elevation, and territory as unavailable when shown as -- or 0 until the required data and validation are present.
